Cookie Three-year-old paint filly came to us Saturday, February  16, 2013. Just skin and bones when she arrived at Paws Ranch Equine Rescue in Bostic, NC. Trauma from a horse halter that had been to tight caused her jaws to become deformed crowding her teeth with possible nerve damage that made it difficult for her to eat and affecting her eyes.Cookie was barely able to stand, unable to eat, extremely underweight and locked in a car garage of a crack house.Teetering on the brink of death. It was the worst combination, starvation and trauma. Her body was trying go through so many things She will need efforts to repair crowded teeth and other medical issues with her jaws,Cookie will need surgical procedures at NC State University CVM or Virginia Tech when she is ready.

Cookie is smaller than horses her age.In just three weeks assisted by her volunteer team reported that Cookie is full of spunk and improving. She will approach strangers to nuzzle their hands and can't wait to stretch her neck and give a hug. Her eyes have that spark back unlike that forlorn desperate look when she arrived at PRERI.

The trauma had caused Cookie's teeth to be crowded and the jaw deformed. . After Cookies Extraction of two teeth, Cookie developed a severe sinus infection. This st back was injuring her sinus cavity that was painful and Cookie was unable to eat normally..She started  withering loosing 150 pounds due to the sinus infections from the teeth extraction March of 2013.The infection did not clear up after constant vet checks a second was obtained in October 2013. Cookie was referred to Virginia Tech for assessment and surgical treatment after obtaining a veterinary second opinion when her condition did not improve.

Finally with a xrays, the veterinarians will be able to see infected areas of Cookie's skull, sinuses and jaw. The infection of the fractured teeth left from the extraction migrated into cookies sinuses and was literally making her sick and unable to eat.

As of today February 10th 2015, Cookie has gained her weight back her height stunted to 13 hands and infection gone from her sinuse, she will remain at PRERI due to her medical condition and compromised immune system. She has a buddy Rambo a mini pony born at PRERI.,

Rollo came to us September 11, 2013 from NC State CVM. He was evaluated for Uvitis and was diagnosed Stage 5 blindness. The Vetranarians' and the owner wanted to give him a chance and not euthanixe him because of his condition and age. We happened to be at NC State with Cowboy and Dakota and noticed Rollo and how beautiful he is.

Not knowing it was serendipity our paths crossed Later that day we were asked if we could take him to the rescue. We were pleased to help this 5 yr old Rocky Mountain Horse. Since his arrival Rollo has may fans and volunteers that ride nd care for him. Trail rides Rollo wants to be out front. He listens and feels the ques from his rider and loves to be loved!.
