PRERI relies of the expertice of trainers who are responsible for training plans for our horses on the property. Clearly, it is quite impractical for for one trainer to put plenty time and energy into 25-30+ horses, so PRERI relies heavily on the compassion of PRERI volunteers with reputable skills in horse training to share in the tremendous task. Whether the training is on the ground or under saddle, there is always a need for help both on and off our facility.

Meet Our Training Team
The result of hard work and devotion were already felt. Our horses were progressing well in their training programs and our adoption numbers started to increase. In early 2008 and present PRERI Volunteers completed additional training clinics, bringing back the techniques they learned and applying them to our horses. During the time with us, in addition PRERI volunteers utilize training methods used by Clinton Anderson and other natural horsemanship trainers. A calm and steady training plan has benefited not only the horses, but also our organization; we have made connections and strides within the horse training world.
Volunteers have taken on many tasks since coming to PRERI. In addition to daily work with our horses, we also train horses for therapeutic training facilities and private citizens. In addition, our Volunteer Training Team has become efficient and safety orientated around our equine, and it is now stronger than ever. PRERI, with the help of our Training Team, has made the giant leap of getting our horses off-site to be seen in various venues, fairs and expos. The impact here at PRERI is not easy to express, and we are so happy to have volunteers as a part of our training team.

On-Site Training
Volunteer Training Team - The Volunteer Training Team is open to adult and select youth volunteers who already have established horse training experience. All volunteers must apply to be a member of the team, which consists of completing a written application, as well as being evaluated with a horse. Based on what each volunteer knows, and what they can bring to the team, their admittance is then determined.
Applicants must keep in mind that the Training Team's main objective is to benefit the horses: making them safer to handle, easier to ride and to become more adoptable and not just for personal gain. Horses are assigned to one trainer, or multiple trainers, and it is the trainer's responsibility to be flexible and open to the training plan,

All trainers are expected to attend Training Team meetings, which usually occur on a monthly basis. Clinics and other special events are often made available to members of the team, and PRERI highly encourages all members to participate in as much as possible as well as adoptive or potential horse owners. Special opportunities and privileges are made based on the level of interest and participation shown by each member of the team.
The Training Team is a dedicated group with many exciting opportunities of appearing at clinics, shows, fairs, expos, etc. These fun-loving individuals all have one thing in common - their love of horses. If you feel like you would be a good fit for our Training Team and would like to further help our horses in a very unique and rewarding way, please contact our Training Team preri@pawsranch.org.
HORSE TRAINING
The horses that come through our gates have all had complicated, and sometimes traumatizing, histories. We rarely know what our horses have had to go through previous to them coming to us, therefore, it is our mission to find out what we can about their histories and what training they need before placing them up for adoption or re-homing.
Once our horses conclude their rehabilitation and veterinary approval for training, we fully evaluate them to determine where they are in their training and determine a plan for each horse, which will vary greatly from well-seasoned under saddle to never started, from off-the-track to pleasure, from respectful to completely untamed. The list is never ending. It requires time and dedication to bring them along and make them ready for an everlastingly home.
